Accessible tourism is the solution that can make this right a reality. The PREDIF (the National Representative Platform for Persons with Physical Disabilities), considers that this solution involves the inclusion of measures to enable standardised, autonomous and safe access, use and enjoyment of the tourist infrastructures, products, environments and services. In other words, it does not just consist of persons with disabilities having adequate transport and hotels, they shall also want to dine, visit museums and parks and nature trails and participate in leisure activities.
The lack of access in tourist resources is an indirect but subtle form of discrimination. Therefore, by including the concept of accessible tourism in holiday locations we are contributing towards equal opportunities for all.
Accessible tourism is an example in which social action and economic momentum are linked. There is a large amount of regional, national and international legislation that demands a response to this challenge from the tourist sector.
